5 Ways To Boost Communication & Create A Solid Connection

When it comes to building solid relationships and connections, communication is key. When you are able to communicate well, there are no crossed wires, no misunderstandings, and far fewer disagreements.

Without good communication skills, you are not able to function effectively in a relationship. We crave that feeling of connection and belonging. Our relationships and friendships are a means of attaining that. A vital part of communication is social interaction and the ability to listen and comprehend what someone else is saying.

Why Is Communication Important?

Good communication skills are a vital part of any healthy relationship. Communication is how we transfer information to each other. When we communicate with someone, we explain our thoughts, feelings, and needs to another person.

How Can Communication Improve Connection?

In any relationship, whether it is a friendship or romantic relationship, communication helps you understand one another better. This ensures that you know each other’s needs, wants, and desires. Communicating involves listening, making eye contact, and connecting with someone else on a deeper level.

When you make assumptions or try to read someone else’s mind, this can easily lead to hurt feelings, misunderstandings, and miscommunication. When you are able to communicate well, you can actively avoid conflict and build a better connection and partnership.

Your connection is enhanced by a willingness to understand someone else’s point of view, or where they’re coming from, even if you don’t necessarily agree. This not only helps you to meet those needs for a better bond but promotes a connection that lasts.

5 Ways To Boost Communication To Create A Solid Connection

There are many ways that you can boost your communication skills. Consider these 5 methods:

1. Be An Active Listener

This means that you engage the other person with appropriate and well-timed questions. Demonstrate that you are attentive and listening. Reflect your understanding and allow them to share fully, without interruption. What they are trying to say?

2. Don’t Forget About Non-Verbal Communication

It’s not just about what you say, but what you do. Nonverbal communication is just as important. Body language and facial expressions reveal where your attention lies and what you actually mean. If you have poor posture and avoid eye contact, you could seem defensive or elusive. Make sure that your body language matches how you feel and what you want to communicate.

3. Be Empathetic

Being able to empathize with someone else is vital for effective communication. This means that you understand and relate to the other person’s feelings or needs. This helps build a bond and rapport between you and another person. Even if you do not necessarily agree with them, you can still empathize with them.

4. Be Clear

One of the most important things to remember is to be as clear as possible when trying to explain your feelings or communicate something to someone else. Try to be as coherent and straightforward as possible. You can build a stronger connection by asking and answering deeper and more important questions with your partner or friend. This can help you understand them, their needs, their values, and their morals.  They can learn, too, what fosters your unhappiness, pain, or pleasure too.

Be clear about the negative and positive. Be sure to show them how much you appreciate them to help strengthen your bond as well.

5. Practice These Tips For Communicating Daily

  • Show genuine interest when they talk
  • Maintain an open, relaxed posture
  • Face the other person
  • Keep a neutral tone
  • Take a moment if you feel tensions or anger rising
  • Avoid checking phones/watching TV
