7 Ways to Boost Motivation & Make the Most of Your Life

Have you been inspired recently to set a goal? Plans are usually pretty easy to make. The real work begins after the first misstep is made or the first obstacle presents itself. This is when motivation plays a major role.

Navigating the struggles along the way is another level of challenge. If you want to make the most of your life, you need to find ways to propel yourself forward.

But where do you find such motivation?

What is Motivation?

Motivation is a desire. It is a desire to attain a goal that is expressed through action. In a big-picture sense, it is two parallel ambitions: To take action and achieve goals. Motivation may be inspired by internal or external factors. But it is not something to be taken for granted. It may come and go and is best understood as a process, not a final product.

The Power of Motivation

Become More Decisive

In the digital age, we are offered more choices than ever. It’s perhaps never been harder to be decisive. Motivation is the counterbalance. It inspires you to choose a path and forge ahead.

Stay Positive

Battling negativity is a 24/7 struggle. When we are motivated, we dwell in a place of increased positivity. Not denial, mind you, but this is a feeling borne of action and mission.

Increased Resourcefulness

Like any process, staying motivated will have bumps in the road. It is your motivation, however, that teaches you to adapt, improvise, and maintain.

Make the Most of Your Life

Only you can decide what “most” means for your life. Whatever it is, a motivated human can move firmly and confidently in that direction.

7 Ways to Boost Motivation & Make the Most of Your Life

1. Take Action

This may sound counterintuitive but action often precedes motivation. Like a kick-start of sorts, your first step can be the catalyst for rapidly growing motivation.

2. Set Big and Small Goals

See the big picture but work hard along the way. Those smaller, short-term goals keep the incentives flowing.

3. Make a Public Commitment

Even the most focused person could use an extra boost. Announcing your plans and goals — a case when social media can be of help — will serve to keep you on the straight and narrow.

4. Keep Your Eyes on the Prize

Set up reminders of what you want and how you’re working to get it. This might be as simple as post-it notes or a whiteboard. Anything that works for you will do the job!

5. Plan in Advance for the Inevitable Glitches

Accepting the concept of “process” sets you up to stay prepared for those inevitable times when things don’t go your way.

6. Reward Yourself Along the Way

This is a reminder to have fun and find joy in your effort.

7. Create a Support System

Friends, family, and other loved ones should want you to succeed. Ask them to demonstrate this desire by helping any way they can.

Motivation is Not a Solo Act

As touched on in #7 above, success is not inherently an act of individualism. Collective efforts are powerful. So, carefully select your teammates. Friends and family were discussed above but what about those times when you need something more?

A skilled, trained therapist can plays many roles in the lives of their patients. One such role is a coach of sorts. Your counselor very much wants to help you make the most of your life. Committing to weekly sessions is your way of making that kickstart to the process.

Therapy can uncover hidden patterns and previously invisible solutions. Again, motivation is not a destination. It is an ongoing and ever-evolving process — made easier with the help of a seasoned guide.
