How Dance Movement Therapy Helps People Process Emotions and Reconnect with Themselves

We often try to think our way through emotional pain, stress, or relationship struggles—but healing doesn’t always begin in the mind. Sometimes, it begins in the body.

On Saturday, June 14, I’ll be leading a 6-week Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) Process Group in Laguna Hills, designed to help people of all backgrounds reconnect with themselves through movement, creativity, and group connection.

This isn’t a dance class. You don’t need any experience. You don’t even need to feel comfortable dancing. This group is about expression, not performance—about finding new ways to understand your emotions, your patterns, and your inner strength.

What Is Dance Movement Therapy?

Dance Movement Therapy is a body-based form of psychotherapy that uses expressive movement to help individuals:

  • Access and release stuck emotions
  • Increase body awareness and emotional insight
  • Strengthen self-esteem and internal clarity
  • Work through relationship and identity challenges
  • Reconnect with a sense of presence and self-compassion

Movement allows us to express what words sometimes can’t—and the group setting provides powerful reflection, support, and connection.

Why a Closed Group?

This will be a closed group, meaning once the group starts, no new participants will join. This allows for greater emotional safety and deeper trust among group members as we move through this shared process together.
